MLK vs. Malcolm X

Are they similar or do they differ? Well, it's pretty much a bit of both. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are two of the most important figures in history. Their actions and sayings will always be remembered throughout history. Now, they are both similar in the goal they wanted to achieve, which was the Civil Rights Movement; but they both differed in the way they worked and achieved it. MLK was more peaceful and non-violent and believed in "civil disobedience". Malcolm X on the other hand believed to do whatever it is necessary to achieve his goals, even if that means violence. MLK's way of approaching equality involved all different races not just one; ,meanwhile Malcolm X was very negative about most races and blamed them for the inequality. Malcolm X was more radical and believed he had the right to retaliate, which kind of made MLKS peaceful ideas more accepted by people. Who wouldnt prefer peace over violence? So therefore, I believed that MLK had a bigger effect in this world as his ideas are still viewed and remembered nowadays, and even still followed when it times of conflicts. Never forget the peaceful words .. "If cursed, do not curse back. If pushed, do not push back. If struck, do not strike back, but evidence love and goodwill at all times".

Meritocracy

I'm one of those people that believe that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything you want no matter how difficult or unreal it may be! If you truely want to achieve something, you wont let anyone or anything get in the way. You want the American Dream? Then work your butt off for it. Its not just going to come to you while doing barely any effort. Yeah I know that the kids from "A Class Divided" were easily influenced and easily programmed by their teacher to think that the superior is always better, but I believe that its all psychological. If you want to believe that you are inferior to others, you'll believe that. If you want to believe that no matter how hard you work you wont be as good as the other, you will believe that. It's all in your head. If you convince yourself you cannot do something, then sure in heck you wont. A person must be confident in theirselves and know that no one is better than him, and he is not better than anyone else. Effort is what gets you somewhere. No pain, no gain.

Impact of television

Ohh TV, what would we do without you? die, thats what. TV's have become such an important thing in life, we cannot just get rid of it that easily. It has a tremendous effect on society nowadays, and the impact just keeps increasing by the day. Ha, now, most houses have a TV in every single room; that's how bad we cant live without them.

Ofcourse TV's are a great thing; it attracts every kinds of people out there. Are you political and care about what is going on in the world? Yup, theres CNN and NBC and all those live news shows for that. Like cartoons and children shows? Theres Disney Channel and Cartoon Network for that. Like shows about animals and nature? Theres National Geographic for that. Theres also scientific, historical, and geographical shows anyone could ever want. It is definately a great way for entertainment. As great as all those postivie things sounds, TV does indeed have a negative side.

Reality shows, reality shows, reality shows. That's pretty much all I have to say. Reality shows are what causing an immense change in teenage behavior nowadays. Teenage kids tend to reinact what they see on tv, from foul language to violenece behavior. They think that acting this way is "cool". There are also other inappopriate shows for teenage kids that dont always have restrictions on them, so watching them would be easy for them to do without parents knowing. Teenagers revolve around TV's, and if things stay the same as they are now, let's just say no good will come out of it.

Sexist Ad

This ad, which appeared in 1936 was promoting the new General Electric Home Laundry. It was said to make laundry work much easier and faster. This ad is very ironic because as innocent as it seems, it displays so much sexism. First of all, it indirectly says that women should do the house work and that it is her job. Laundry isnt that hard of a task for men to do, but I guess at that time, it was only a thing women were supposed to do. Second, it shows the mother teaching possibly her little daugthter how to start cleaning and doing work like her. The people who created this ad, which were most likely to be men, are saying that women should teach their young girls so that they'd grow up doing the same housework and following their mothers footsteps. This ad shows how men viewed the roles of women; important for housework. What shame.
